FAQ
1. What is the purpose of this project?
The purpose of the project is to confirm and refine the Environmental Assessment Recommended Plan specific to the replacement of five bridges at four sites on Highway 417 and to prepare for implementation. The bridges are located at Maitland Avenue, Woodroffe Avenue, Pinecrest Road and Richmond Road, in the City of Ottawa.
2. During construction, what will be the impact on traffic (i.e., lane closures and detour routes)?
Highway 417 and City of Ottawa local street lane closures will be required during construction to accommodate the bridge replacements. Proposed detour routes will be shared during the Public Information Centre.
3. What will be the impacts of increased noise and vibration?
An initial noise analysis was undertaken during preliminary design and documented in the Transportation Environmental Study Report (2007). The analysis found no significant impacts related to an increase in roadway noise from the bridge replacements. Noise barriers will be retained or replaced as necessary. During the detail design phase, additional assessments will be completed to confirm noise and vibration impacts and to develop mitigation measures as required.
Construction noise will be generated during the demolition and replacement of the bridges. Standard provisions, through the control of construction practices, will be followed to minimize the level of noise generated.
4. What will be the environmental impacts of the Project?
Initial environmental investigations were undertaken during preliminary design and documented in the Transportation Environmental Study Report (2007). During the detail design phase, additional environmental investigations will be completed to confirm the presence of sensitive species and their habitat, and to develop mitigation measures as required. The results of these investigations will be documented in the Design and Construction Report (DCR) for each contract. Both DCRs (including a 5-year review of the Transportation Environmental Study Report) will be available for a 30-day public review period.
5. How can I participate in this project?
Two virtual Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held here, on the project website, to present and facilitate feedback on the proposed detail design(s). Notices will be published in local newspapers (Ottawa Citizen and Le Droit) to advertise the date and time of the virtual PIC.
